 phillies logo

Phillie Phanatic is a neon-green hairy giant with a sprout-shaped mouth and cylindrical nose. The Phanatic is the official mascot of the Philadelphia Phillies, a Major League Baseball club. The Phillie Phanatic from tip to toe is the finest mascot whose presence cheers up and brings smiles on the faces of fans whether young or old. It is a bundle of fun and brings joy to people who donít normally have much. The Phanatic is very spontaneous and mischievous and tries to bring out the kid in everyone. He is different than other mascots, since heís allowed on the field and Major League Baseball gives him a minute-and-a-half to perform.

The Phanatic debuted on April 25, 1978 in Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He simply transformed the experience of watching a professional baseball game. He was an instant success and became a sensation. The fall of his buttocks and the shake of his bountiful belly burst everybody into pearls of laughter. He was named after the crazy fans of the Philadelphia Phillies and has been a fun part of Phillies baseball. He even earned the "baseball's best mascot" by sports analyst Tim McCarver. For 16 years from 1978 to 1994, Dave Raymond portrayed the Phanatic. Currently Tom Burgoyne portrays this mischievous creature.

The Phanatic is at his mischievous best while riding on his all-terrain vehicle before the game. He even tries to knock off the players of the opposing team to give the home team any advantage. He participates in scoffing and hooting at the opposing team along with the fans. In the crowd he is up to any mischief. He may awkwardly a tub of popcorn, steal your girlfriend, buff a bald head or just sit down and watch the game with you - from your lap.

He likes to shoot cooked hot dogs into the crowd with his four foot long Hot Dog Launcher. He is very fond of dancing and is always in constant search of a dance partner. He is an admirable creature and is considered to be the of all professional sports mascots. He holds the credit for entertaining millions of fans all over the world. He has made national TV appearances on the "Today" show, "Good Morning America," "The Regis and Kathy Lee Show," and "The Rosie O'Donnell Show." He has also acted in Fox Network commercials.

The Phanatic is also a benevolent and has provided support to numerous and national charities over the years. The Phillies donated a 35-pound Phanatic suit to the Hall in Cooperstown, N.Y. in 2002. The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum already owns two other donated mascot suits: the Famous Chicken and Youppi!
